I’m so happy that you’ve chosen me to support you on your
wellness journey. Over the next few months, I hope to help you regain balance
in your health and feel your best. Most importantly, I aim to help you walk away with a deeper awareness of your body's inner messages and how to address them naturally long after our time together has ended.
Based on our initial conversation, your primary health goals are:
- hormonal balance/regulating menstrual cycles
- weight loss
- better sleep
- healthy diet/no more yo-yo dieting
As we've discussed, there are many factors that combine to create overall wellness, so we'll get into details about managing a healthy and satisfying diet without binge eating, reducing your stress level, incorporating gentle self-care practices, and reducing your headaches and fatigue.
We'll gradually talk about these various elements as our sessions progress, but in the meantime I recommend the following for the next two weeks.
1. begin to incorporate small amounts of protein that appeal to you.
This can include lentils or beans, nuts or nut butter, eggs, fish, or meats (organic when possible). There is no need to overdo it and consume a large amount all at one, but rather aim to have at least 1 source of protein per day to reintroduce it back into your body.
Observe your reaction to each of the different protein sources. Does it make you feel anxious, bloated, satisfied, sleepy, full of energy, etc.? Pay close attention, and even jot it down in a notebook or iPhone if you can. This will help you develop a deeper awareness of your body's signals so that you can give yourself more of the foods that are truly nourishing to you.
2. Incorporate a stress-reducing activity in your schedule at least 3 times a week, preferably in the evenings.
What do you enjoy that truly relaxes you and that you enjoy doing for yourself? (not studying for school or even playing with your daughter, something just for you YOU!). Whether it's reading a good book in bed, knitting, taking a bath (when the whether cools down), or doing some gentle yoga stretches while listening to music with candlelight, choose what that is for you and make time to do it more.
Even if it's just 10 minutes, 3 evenings a week, this will help your body and mind relax as you approach bedtime and increase the likelihood for better sleep. When we speak again, I'll have more recommendations for specific practices I've found to be very beneficial, but for now it doesn't matter what relaxing thing you're doing, as long as it gives you a sense of peace.
3. Look into finding a good medical doctor and schedule any necessary appointments.
It's very important to have a quality doctor who is not only versed in holistic health as well as modern medicine, but is someone you genuinely trust and feel comfortable with. The medical practice I go to is Patients Medical, and except for their occasional administrative shortcomings I have been satisfied there with my doctor, Dr. Gulati.
You have the advantage of living in New York City, where there are many such integrative health practices, so I encourage you to do a little research and find the one that works best for you. If there are any other appointments you still have not scheduled then take care of that as well so we can begin to have results and customize your sessions based on any new information.
This may or may not seem like a lot to get started with, but it's very important that we pace ourselves so that you have a chance to fully integrate and experiment with various different elements as we continually build upon every session. Feel free to email me with any questions, and I'll talk to you soon!
